Dear friends - it’s a bittersweet day.
Today, we are announcing that we’ve decided to take a final bow together as The Lovelocks and move into the next season of our lives.
These things are of course never easy, but we are united and especially grateful for all that we have been able to accomplish together.
When we started this project back in late 2011, we had no idea what it would become. We knew we loved hanging out and singing together, but little did we know, we were embarking on an adventure of a lifetime.
7 years ago, if you had told us that we would create 3 studio albums, and 1 live album, we wouldn’t have believed you. If you had told us that we would have the opportunity to perform everywhere from the biggest festival stages across Canada, to the most intimate of house concerts, we would have given you an eyebrow raise. If you had told us that we would tour around the world, from Kuwait, to France, to Ukraine, to the Bluebird Café in Nashville, to every nook and cranny across Canada, we would have laughed. If you had told us that our songs would be on the radio or that we would win a CCMA or a CMAO award, our jaws would have hit the ground. If you had told us we would journey through the best and worst of times together, navigating this tough industry all the while having a blast through it all, we never would have understood what we were signing up for. But we’re so glad we are able to look back now and say that we did it. And we did it well. We put ourselves out there, we always had each other’s back, and we received a ton of love and support from you, for which we are so grateful. As we say goodbye, we do so with our heads held high. Proud of the work. Proud of the music. Proud of each other.
This hasn’t been an easy decision for either of us. We love this project, we love our fans, we love our Canadian country music family, and we love our friendship. There has been a lot of discussion, tears, mourning and reflection as we face a future without The Lovelocks. Nevertheless, after many years of actively pursuing this dream and weathering the ups and downs of the industry, it is time to close this chapter of our lives and make space for other adventures.
We want to take a moment to say a special thank you to every one of you - our fans - who helped make this dream come to life. Thank you to all of you who bought an album or a t-shirt, donated to our crowdfunding campaigns, or bought a ticket to one of our shows. Thank you for streaming our music and telling your friends about our band, and for knowing the words to our songs! We will never forget the feeling of being connected to you, and we will carry that in our hearts forever.
Thank you (a million times over) to our team - Mike, Carmen, Mitch, Tiff, Emma, Heather, Jamie and everyone at MDM Recordings, Charlotte and Shelby at Red Umbrella, Holly at HC Consulting, Dale and Sara at Dale Speaking, Julien and Todd at Paquin Entertainment, Pat Leyland our entertainment lawyer, our dear friend and brilliant producer Ben Glover, the many musicians we have toured and worked with (you know who you are!) and everyone we have partnered with over the years. Thank you for working so hard on our behalf, and for creating so many amazing memories with us, that we will cherish for the rest of our lives.
Thank you to our families and friends who have been such an amazing cheering section and a solid foundation for us to leap from in pursuing this crazy dream! Thank you for believing in us, always, and for making us laugh, cry, and serving us wine.
And most of all a very special thank you to our incredible husbands, Brian and Mark, who championed us and this project (aka the family business) in every way possible. Your support and encouragement has been instrumental and we could not have gotten this far without you. We love you guys!
As we say our goodbyes, we wanted to leave you with a parting gift - not a sad parting gift, but a hopeful and empowered message of love and joy. Something that we have always wanted to put back into the world. So, we’ve decided to release one final song. It’s a thank you from our hearts to yours, and it's appropriately titled “Good Way To Go”. And we think it is just perfectly that.
With much love,
Ali & Zoë
